President Emmanuel Macron defended his efforts to fight climate change to Internet users on Sunday following a Twitter invitation for users to ask questions last week.

A week ago, he had invited Twitter users to send him questions on the sidelines of COP27 in Egypt and he then answered some in a ten-minute video posted on social networks.

Macron spoke of his achievements since taking office, including  the “22,000 km of bicycle paths”, “more than one million homes” renovated from a thermal point of view, and some 1 million sustainable vehicles.

“It’s not for my sake,” he said, in a direct tone, assuring that he had “doubled his efforts” during the previous five-year term. “We have reduced our emissions twice as fast as we did in the past five years.”

“Let’s avoid talking nonsense and accusing each other,” he said in reference to those criticising his stance.

But Macron assured followers that more positive developments are due during his current mandate.

“What we are going to do in the period 2022-2027 is to go twice as fast, and it is possible,” he promised.
