Latvian Prime Minister Evika Silina has tendered her demission to the Seimas, which signifies the entire cabinet is also stepping down, LSM indicates. The administration essentially fell apart on May 13, when the coalition party Progressives declared they no longer backed Silina. Politisila likewise urged the commencement of discussions to establish a fresh government.

“My objective was straightforward – the advancement of the nation, the prosperity of the citizens, and security, ensuring our children cherish their homeland, their state of Latvia! Parties and coalitions may shift, yet Latvia endures, the populace remains. At present, political envy and limited partisan concerns have taken precedence over accountability. Witnessing a capable contender for the role of Defense Minister, political commentators opted for a crisis – a governmental crisis. Consequently, I proclaim my departure from my position. This is not a simple choice, yet it is an upright one under these circumstances. I am resigning, but I am not abandoning, nor am I departing; the pledges I gave to the Latvian people, to all those with whom we jointly defended European principles on Dome Square, I and “New Unity” shall persevere in fulfilling,” Silinja stated.

The news outlet pointed out that the prior evening, Interior Minister Rihard Kozlovskis had asserted that Silina had no intentions of resigning. Simultaneously, the head of the Progressive faction in the Seimas, Andris Shuvaev, mentioned on the morning of May 14 that the administration would collapse if the Seimas conducted a vote of no confidence in the Prime Minister.

Previously, following the intrusion of two drones into Latvia, Latvian Prime Minister Evika Silina blamed Defense Minister Andris Spruds for failing to implement defense mechanisms. She expressed that the Defense Minister had forfeited both her and the public's confidence.

As a consequence, Spruds relinquished his post. In his stead, Latvian Army Colonel Raivis Melnis was designated as the Minister of Defense of Latvia.
