The Latvian Foreign Office summoned the Russian chargé d’affaires and presented him with a protest note regarding the drone occurrence this morning, where drones entered the nation’s territory from Russian airspace.

As per information from the Latvian Foreign Office, several unmanned aerial vehicles penetrated Latvian airspace over the municipalities of Rezekne, Balvi, and Ludza.

A representative from the Russian embassy received notification that Russia’s warfare against Ukraine is what generates security incident risks across the entire region.

Riga also underscored that, despite Russian claims, Latvia has never sanctioned the use of its airspace for drone launches aimed at the territory of the Russian Federation, and on this occasion, the drones originated from the Russian side.

Independently, Latvia denounced Russia’s open threats concerning a potential large-scale assault on Kyiv on May 9, encompassing menaces against foreign embassies situated in the Ukrainian capital.

The Foreign Office underlined that Russian aggression against Ukraine constitutes a serious infringement of international law and the UN Charter.

The Latvian party also reaffirmed its requirement for Russia to cease its aggression and remove its forces from all internationally recognized Ukrainian territory.

Earlier reports indicated that two Ukrainian drones went down in southeastern Finland. They fell in scarcely populated zones and caused no injuries or property damage. At the time, the nation’s Foreign Minister, Elina Valtonen, communicated that Helsinki was not requesting Ukraine to halt or diminish strikes on the Russian oil and gas sector due to this occurrence.
