Joining the EU has been a strategic goal for the past two decades, and fulfilling the criteria for EU membership remains one of the key foreign affairs priorities, said Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dačić, adding that the status of Kosovo is the country’s number one security issue.

Belgrade and Pristina will hold another round of negotiations in Brussels on Monday (27 February), with Dačić calling the status of Kosovo, “Serbia’s number one security issue.”

“We want to follow through on our national interests, but there are many challenges on our European journey. Fulfilling the criteria for EU membership remains one of the key foreign affairs priorities, which has also been a strategic goal for every Serbian government in the last 20 years,” said Dačić

“With the escalation of the Ukraine situation, the focus of the international community has been heightened towards the solution of our southern region. According to that, we have formed a clear and firm negotiating position and Kosovo and Metohija remain our number one security issue,” said Dačić during a visit to the military academy “Vojvoda Radomir Putnik.”

The next round of negotiations will “bear a special weight,” said Dačić.
