Finland and Sweden concluded a framework agreement with Finnish gun manufacturer SAKO to replenish their respective firearms stockpiles.

The Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV), the Finnish Defence Forces Logistics Command and  SAKO agreed to the deal on Monday.

Finland mostly ordered assault rifles and personal protective gear worth about €700,000, while Sweden acquired similar equipment at around €78 million, newspaper YLE reported.

The agreement, valid for ten years, can be extended by three seven-year option periods until 2053.

The agreement aims to modernise armament, enable joint ammunition purchases and improve the maintenance and interoperability of the two defence forces, reported STT.
