The European Court of Auditors (ECA) announced about 73 audit auctions for the upcoming two years on Tuesday to double-down scrutiny on the EU’s budget following increased spending.
The EU Court of Auditors will strongly focus on the €800 billion NextGenerationEU pandemic recovery package and its Recovery and Resilience Facility, as well as the EU’s competitiveness, external dimension, and climate policies.
“While the EU budget continues to grow in scope and complexity, the European Court of Auditors is dedicated to fulfilling its role in shaping the EU’s financial landscape”, said ECA President Tony Murphy.
“Our work programme for 2024 and beyond reflects our commitment to focusing our work on issues that directly impact the well-being of EU citizens,” he added.
Key special reports expected include an audit of the implementation of sanctions against Russia and an analysis of whether the EU’s recently adopted AI law stifles innovation, among others, according to the work programme.
