Following Tuesday’s discussion of matters related to aiding the Ukrainian nation by European leaders, which occurred through a video conference, the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, posted a message on the X platform, underscoring that a vital assurance of security is Ukraine’s entry into the EU.

“We held a productive conversation today with European leaders concerning our backing for Ukraine, its security, and the restoration of the nation. Ultimately, the well-being of a sovereign Ukrainian state resides in becoming a member of the EU. This also acts as a significant security pledge in itself,” penned Ursula von der Leyen.

She holds the view that membership is not just advantageous for the countries joining: as demonstrated by past expansion phases, Europe as a whole reaps rewards.

This isn’t the first instance of the European Commission President commenting on Ukraine’s EU integration – she consistently champions this aspiration of our nation. Earlier, Ursula von der Leyen identified five principal priorities that should be part of a peace accord for Ukraine, with the protection of Ukraine’s sovereignty being one of them. Von der Leyen stressed that authorizing or legitimizing boundary infringements today could pave the way for fresh disputes in the future, and this must not be permitted.

“The future of Ukraine is within the European Union, and this is a key and essential aspect of any system of security guarantees,” Von der Leyen added in November 2025.
