European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen reacted to Russia’s significant assault on Kyiv during the night of May 14, which resulted in 9 fatalities.

As per her statement, this offensive was among the most prolonged and savage.

“Another night filled with loss and devastation. And indiscriminate attacks upon non-combatants. While Russia openly scorns diplomatic endeavors, we are determined to reinforce Ukraine,” von der Leyen posted on X.

She announced that the EU will amplify its backing for Ukraine, notably, preparations are nearing completion for a €6 billion support package for Ukraine to procure unmanned aerial vehicles. They are also set to escalate sanctions-related pressure on Russia.

“We are finalizing the €6 billion drone assistance initiative. And we are persisting in applying pressure to Russia’s military economy through increasingly stringent sanctions,” von der Leyen stated.

It’s been reported that during May 13 and 14, the Russians deployed 1,567 unmanned aerial vehicles and 56 missiles of differing categories. Of this arsenal, Ukrainian defenders successfully neutralized 94% of the UAVs and 73% of the missiles.
