A Dutch forensic and investigation team of 40 people that investigated war crimes committed in Ukraine over the past few weeks returned to the Netherlands with evidence that will be submitted to the International Criminal Court’s Prosecution.
The team conducted the investigations at the request of Ukraine, on behalf of the International Criminal Court, and included forensic, digital, and tactical detectives from the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee. They arrived at the Eindhoven Air Base on Saturday.
According to the Defence Ministry, the team secured evidence, spoke to witnesses, and conducted DNA testing.
“The forensic investigation team of @Marechaussee has just returned from Ukraine. The team investigated possible war crimes under difficult conditions. These should not go unpunished. Many thanks for your important work,” tweeted Defence Minister Kajsa Ollongren.
The Netherlands plans to send experts back to Ukraine in the spring of 2023 to conduct further investigations.
