The Polish president’s spokesman, Rafal Leskiewicz, said that on September 10, an unprecedented attack against a NATO country took place, and yesterday “a lot has changed.” Speaking on RMF24, he added that the Alliance’s territory was “attacked in this way for the first time,” referring to the Russian drones flying into the country.
“If we look at this historically, and not just politically, this date will undoubtedly be recorded in history textbooks as an act of aggression by the Russian Federation against one of the NATO countries, Poland,” he said.
He said the Russian drone attack was also the first time a drone had been shot down over the territory of a NATO country by Dutch pilots. The Polish presidential spokesman added that this was “an important signal to Putin” as he demonstrated his readiness to defend NATO’s eastern flank.
“The systems worked, although the very fact that these drones penetrated the borders of the Republic of Poland so freely is, of course, worrying, and in fact to this day we are still searching for the last drones,” he added.
He also commented on yesterday’s conversation between the leaders of the United States and Poland. According to him, it was good, and Donald Trump confirmed allied support and the further deployment of American troops in Poland.
As a reminder, on the night of September 10, during the massive Russian attack on Ukraine, 19 drones flew into Polish territory, several of which were shot down. An expert on Ukrainian-Polish relations, Yevhen Magda, stated that Russia is trying to exert psychological pressure on Poland, and the incidents with drones show that the war has actually “knocked on the door” of the country.
