Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala says he will nominate his current emissary, Tomáš Pojar, for the soon-to-be-established national security advisor position, which comes with the task of coordinating intelligence and security forces.

Pojar is currently Fiala’s advisor on foreign affairs and security matters, his righthand man and a person responsible for negotiating with other countries on the most important issues at the EU level.

The government will discuss the matter soon. According to Fiala, the creation of the post was recommended by the National Security Council at Wednesday’s meeting.

This does not come as a surprise, the creation of the position is mentioned in the government’s programme statement, and the role of the advisor includes tackling hybrid threats and disinformation.

“Thus, a platform for coordination and communication between security policy actors will be established at the Office of the Government to ensure closer cooperation between intelligence and security forces and effective action against disinformation and hybrid threats,” the programme statement read.

Pojar has been the vice-rector of the CEVRO Institute, a private university that has focused on security issues since 2014. From 1997 to 2005, he was executive director of the non-profit organisation People in Need.

Subsequently, he worked as an advisor and deputy for bilateral relations and, later, on European matters and security at the Foreign Affairs Ministry. From 2010 to 2014, he was Ambassador to Israel.
