Slovenian police dealt with 54,017 criminal offences last year, up more than a tenth over the year before and on a par with pre-pandemic for years, the latest police statistics show.
Damjan Petrič, director of the Criminal Police Directorate, said on Wednesday) that the number of crimes had increased in all areas compared to the five-year average. For example, juvenile crime increased by 26% and organised crime by 18%.
Police officers discovered 53% more military weapons and 111% more ammunition for these weapons. The amount of weapons seized suggests that they were destined for organised crime or extremist activity in EU countries.
A 13% increase in domestic violence and a 17% increase in child sexual abuse cases.
Police filed charges in 29 cases of murder or attempted murder, 11 fewer than last year, while only one such crime is still under investigation, Petrič added.
A total of 8,099 serious cases of white-collar crimes and corruption were processed last year. In online fraud, more than €15 million in damage was caused to at least 330 individuals and legal entities.
