The purchase gives Google a new boost in its efforts to compete in cloud computing by offering greater security for its services.
“Wiz and Google Cloud are founded on the belief that cloud security should be simpler, more accessible, smarter, and more democratic so that more organizations can safely adopt and use the cloud and AI,” Wiz CEO Assaf Rappaport wrote in his blog.
The company says Wiz will join Google Cloud, and that the deal is the company's investment “in accelerating two big growing trends in the AI era: improving cloud security and enabling multi-cloud usage.”
Google CEO Sundar Pichai said that Google Cloud and Wiz “will lead to a dramatic increase in cloud security and multi-cloud capabilities.”
Assaf Rappaport, co-founder and CEO, added that the deal “will support our mission to enhance security and prevent breaches by providing additional resources and deep expertise in artificial intelligence.”
Wiz, a New York-based company founded in 2020, produces security products designed to protect information stored in remote data centers from attackers.
Google has long had its eye on Wiz. The purchase price announced Tuesday exceeds the $23 billion offer Wiz rejected last July.
