The study indicates that the average worldwide acceptance rating for China’s government stood at 36% in the prior year. In contrast, the acceptance rating for the US government declined to 31%, showing a decrease of eight percentage points compared to the year 2024.

The previous year represented the second successive year in which both countries experienced a negative overall equilibrium in worldwide acceptance. China’s average net result was minus 1, while the US plummeted to minus 15, its lowest score on record.

China garners considerable backing from nations such as Russia, Pakistan, Tunisia, and Singapore. Nevertheless, according to Gallup, this inclination is more indicative of unfavorable sentiments toward the United States rather than considerable eagerness for China.

Conversely, the US enjoys backing from Israel, Poland, Kosovo, the Philippines, and Albania. Their acceptance ratings for the US are nearly equivalent to China’s disapproval ratings.

Gallup also noted a decline in the portion of individuals who lack an opinion, hitting one of the lowest points in approximately 20 years. Worldwide evaluations of both nations are becoming increasingly defined, with only 16% of individuals having no opinion about China and just 13% remaining undecided about the United States.

Concurrently, a majority of nations do not exhibit a distinct preference for either China or the US. A total of 8% of nations display a noticeable inclination toward China, whereas 5% lean toward the US. An additional 40% of nations show a slight inclination, with 32% favoring China and 8% favoring the US.

For the past twenty years, Gallup has engaged residents of each nation participating in its yearly World Poll to assess the governments of four prominent economic or military entities: the United States, China, Russia, and Germany. The findings are drawn from surveys carried out in over 130 nations. These surveys occurred in 2025, prior to significant developments such as the U.S. withdrawing from 66 international organizations in January and the commencement of hostilities with Iran in late February.

In February, Gallup revealed that it would discontinue monitoring the president’s acceptance ratings—marking the first instance in its 88-year history.

An international survey, conducted one year following Donald Trump’s return to the White House, revealed that much of the globe is of the opinion that his “Make America Great Again” strategy, purportedly aimed at reinstating US dominance, is in actuality fostering the rise of China.
