China stands ready to collaborate with the United States to advance discussions across all echelons while remaining steadfast in its “red lines” and fundamental principles, according to Chinese parliament spokesperson Lu Qingjian on Wednesday, March 4, Reuters detailed .
Beijing and Washington should show mutual regard and coexist in a peaceful manner, Lu emphasized.
“China possesses its own tenets and limits, and will invariably protect its sovereignty, security, and developmental advantages,” he asserted.
Interactions between national leaders assume an “indispensable strategic function” in steering the relationship between the two nations, Lu noted, urging both parties to “enlarge the scope of collaboration and diminish the range of difficulties.”
He also appealed to the US Congress to adopt an “unbiased” view of China and contribute more towards reinforcing ties.
The National People's Congress of China commences its yearly gathering on Thursday, March 5, to present this year’s economic targets and core policy directions. The assembly occurs at a critical juncture for Sino-US relations, as both entities endeavor to stabilize connections ahead of a prospective meeting between US President Donald Trump and Chinese Premier Xi Jinping in Beijing towards the end of March.
An official from the White House verified to the press that Trump plans to visit China from March 31 to April 2, although formal confirmation from Beijing is still pending. As reported by Bloomberg News, the leading trade negotiators from both nations are scheduled to convene in Paris the following week to deliberate on potential agreements in conjunction with the highly anticipated summit.
