US President Donald Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff and adviser Jared Kushner will urgently arrive in Israel, which has launched a war with the United States against Iran. VIDEO OF THE DAY
According to a senior US security official, Israel had warned Washington in advance of its intention to attack, but did not specify the scale of the operation. The US had expected a more symbolic action, but was surprised by its scale, considering such actions risky.
The American side expresses concern that strikes on facilities that provide fuel to the civilian population of Tehran could have the opposite effect – strengthening the positions of the Iranian regime and turning citizens against Israel and the United States.
At the same time, an Israeli official explained that the attacks on fuel depots were intended to demonstrate to Iran the need to stop striking civilian targets in Israel.
