The situation is very worrying: Moldovan President on the fuel crisis

Moldovan authorities should prepare for the worst-case scenarios amid rising fuel prices. In the coming days, the government will analyze possible measures to support the economy, but it will not be possible to fully compensate for the losses caused by the crisis. This was stated by Moldovan President Maia Sandu, reports News Maker.

“It is one thing if the price crisis and the energy crisis in general, related to oil and gas, ends within a few weeks, and quite another if it lasts for months. Rising prices affect households and the economy. We have a pricing mechanism in place that provides for a smoother transition to market value within 14 days. This allows us to smooth out sharp fluctuations, but this does not mean that prices will not reach world levels,” Sandu said.

She emphasized that the authorities “must prepare for the worst-case scenarios.”

“The situation is very worrying. If prices do not stabilize in the coming weeks, the economy will face serious consequences. The government will propose measures within our capabilities. It is obvious that no one can fully compensate for the losses caused by the crisis, but there are certain solutions,” the Moldovan president added.

She clarified that the authorities have considered all three scenarios, including the most pessimistic one — a prolonged global energy crisis. According to her, the measures will depend on how the situation develops.

In Moldova, diesel fuel prices have risen by almost a third in three weeks, and gasoline prices by 20%. Gasoline is available at gas stations, but diesel fuel, despite the price hike, is not available at many gas stations. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Energy claims that the country has diesel fuel reserves.

Earlier, the head of the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine, Pavlo Kyrylenko, named the real reasons for the increase in fuel prices in our country.
