
Norwegian Finance Minister Jens Stoltenberg and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte discussed increasing the alliance's defense spending and support for Ukraine at a recent meeting. Rutte noted that he personally visited Ukraine last week and saw the consequences of Russian attacks. He spoke of NATO's desire to increase defense spending, welcoming some progress in this area, The Guardian reports.

“President Putin is trying to break the people of Ukraine, hoping to weaken their resolve. But Ukraine and the Ukrainian people have repeatedly shown that they cannot be broken,” Rutte said.
But he added that Ukraine “cannot sustain this struggle or ensure peace on its own,” and stressed the importance of supporting allies through NATO.
At the upcoming NATO meeting, Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov will discuss with allies the possibilities of strengthening assistance and increasing its effectiveness.

Support for Ukraine remains a key priority for NATO in the face of ongoing Russian aggression, Rutte said.
