Putin commented for the first time on the Internet shutdown in Russia

Russians began complaining about the “tightening of the screws” in the communications sector in the winter. For example, mobile Internet outages became the norm, restrictions on the Telegram messenger caused many complaints, etc.

At the same time, the authorities assure that this is only for the benefit of Russians – the restrictions are being introduced, in particular, to combat terrorist threats. This is how the Kremlin boss Vladimir Putin explains it, ASTRA reports.

“Residents of the Russian Federation encounter Internet restrictions, including in large cities, infrequently, but it does happen,” says Putin, according to whom “broadly informing the public about Internet restrictions in advance can harm operational development, because criminals also hear and see everything,” and “will adjust their behavior and criminal plans.”

The Russian dictator stated the need to develop a mechanism for the uninterrupted operation of “life-supporting Internet services” under conditions of restrictions on mobile Internet.

Earlier it was reported that Putin's rating fell to its lowest level since the beginning of the large-scale aggression in Ukraine, although the percentage of Russians who trust the Russian president is still high. The decline in trust was influenced by factors such as economic problems and war fatigue. Another flurry of criticism, including from Russian “influencers” abroad, fell on the authorities for the situation with the Internet.
