“We have the infrastructure for this,” the president added. “The maximum possible presence of American troops in Europe is in the security interests of both the Baltic states and Central and Eastern Europe, regardless of anyone’s views. I think the task of the Polish president is, for the sake of Poland, and for the sake of all of Europe, to convince President Donald Trump that once he makes such a decision regarding the contingent in Germany, it is President Donald Trump’s decision to leave these soldiers in Europe, that is, in Poland or in one of the Baltic states or in another region. I will encourage such decisions to stay in Europe.”

Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense of Poland Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz stated during the opening of the 8th Defence24 Days event that “there is no safe Europe without the presence of American troops.”

He stressed that increasing the presence of American troops “is our strategic goal.” According to him, Poland has been preparing for this for a long time.

Last Friday, it was announced that Pentagon Secretary Pete Hegseth had decided to withdraw about 5,000 troops from Germany. This is expected to happen over the next 6-12 months. On Saturday, President Trump said that he intends to reduce the number of troops stationed in Germany even more than previously announced. Trump also discussed the possible withdrawal of troops from Italy and Spain, criticizing these two countries for their lack of assistance to the United States, writes RMF24.

There are currently between 35,000 and 37,000 American troops stationed in Germany. In 2020, Trump announced the withdrawal of 9,500 of them, accusing Berlin of failing to fulfill its obligations to NATO. Some troops were supposed to be transferred to Poland, but these plans did not materialize at the time.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said in a television interview that, despite differences of opinion on war with Iran, the United States remains Germany's most important partner in NATO.
