In addition, the parties are discussing the prospects for economic cooperation between the United States and Russia.

According to sources, Dmitriev's visit comes on the eve of the expiration of temporary sanctions relief on Russian oil imposed due to the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. These reliefs expire on April 11 and are likely to be on the agenda of the negotiations.

The United States had previously granted a 30-day waiver from sanctions to allow other countries to purchase Russian oil and petroleum products that remained blocked at sea, a decision that followed a phone call between Putin and Trump on March 9, followed by Dmitriev's visit to the United States.
