
Speaker of the Lithuanian Seimas Juozas Olekas did not sign a letter initiated by the heads of parliaments of Israel and the United States of America, calling for US President Donald Trump to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. This was confirmed by Olekas' advisor Gitana Letukėne. According to her, the invitation to sign the letter was received by the Speaker of the Parliament at the end of January. However, the Speaker refrained from signing it, reports lrt.lt

“The invitation to sign a letter to the Nobel Committee was received on January 22. The Speaker of the Seimas decided to refrain from signing the letter to the Nobel Committee,” said the advisor to the leader of the parliament.
At the end of January, it became known that the Speaker of the Latvian Parliament, Daiga Merinja, signed a letter to the Nobel Committee proposing to award the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize to US President Donald Trump.
Although Merinja initially stated that the signature was only a “test” and that the matter still needed to be discussed with Latvian foreign policy leaders, she later confirmed that the signed letter had already been sent to Israel.
In turn, Marshal of the Sejm of neighboring Poland, Wlodzimierz Czaszysty, refused to support US President Donald Trump's nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize. According to him, the US leader does not deserve this award.

After that, US Ambassador to Poland Tom Rose said he would cease all contact with Czaszty because of his comments about Trump.
