How Harry and Meghan met: why the Sussexes enthusiastically supported a new trend

While Prince William is busy hiring a crisis manager before Meghan Markle's arrival in Britain, the Duchess herself and her husband Prince Harry prefer to have fun on social media.

In particular, the couple recently joined a viral trend in which celebrities and users share photos taken in 2016, the media reports.

On Instagram, the 44-year-old duchess posted an archive photo of those years with her husband, Prince Harry, as well as a rare black-and-white video shot by their four-year-old daughter Lilibet. “When 2026 feels like 2016… You have to be there,” she captioned the post.

The couple reportedly began dating in 2016, and the trip to Botswana effectively cemented Meghan's image in Harry's mind as his future wife and “soulmate.” Around the time of their engagement, Harry spoke about the trip to Botswana in an interview with Vanity Fair and admitted that he invited Meghan to Botswana after two dates in London.

“We camped together under the stars,” he recalled. “She came and spent five days there, which was absolutely fantastic. So we were really on our own, which was really important to me, to make sure we got to know each other.”

Harry admitted that Meghan agreed to go to Africa without knowing him at all. “I was amazed she said ‘yes,’” Harry gushed during the filming of their documentary series. “This woman, who I’ve actually met twice… she comes to Botswana and we live in a tent for five days!”

In the video, Harry and Meghan pose together, embracing — it's understandable why these moments have become so important for the prince's wife — perhaps, if it weren't for the trip to Africa, she would have remained an unknown actress from “Force Majeure,” and not a British princess. So for her, it was truly a fateful trip.

As you know, Hollywood actress Meghan Markle and the youngest son of King Charles III and Princess Diana, Prince Harry, got married in 2018. A year later, their first child, Archie, was born, and two years later, Lilibet. In 2020, amid a conflict with the court, the couple resigned from royal duties, left the UK, and settled in the US. Here, the couple is trying to build a business, but is often criticized, and their projects fail.

We also recall that the technique of “returning to the past” was recently used by Alla Pugacheva's eldest daughter, Kristina Orbakaite. On the social network, she posted a photo with her daughter Klava when she was still a baby in her arms, and also when she was already an adult.
