“Putin sincerely believes in his superiority on the front and considers it tangible,” one of the sources said. According to him, even if it will take 18 months to two years to establish full control over Donbas, the Russian dictator is convinced that time is on his side.
Putin sees every day of fighting and every night when Russian missiles and drones attack Ukraine's energy infrastructure and residential buildings as additional leverage in the war.
The New York Times’ sources also reported that the Kremlin is pleased with the U.S. negotiating team currently in consultations. “Russian officials appreciate Witkoff’s warmth and enthusiasm for the talks… He was clearly a newcomer to the issues that divide Washington and Moscow, but now he has fully embraced the ‘Russian course,’” one of the sources told the publication. The Kremlin also speaks favorably of Donald Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, noting his more organized and structured approach.

Meanwhile, the Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Federation, Valery Gerasimov, continues to spread statements about the allegedly successful actions of Russian troops. However, these statements are not confirmed by Ukrainian and independent sources and do not correspond to the real situation on the front.
Earlier, analyst Vitaly Portnikov pointed out Trump's mistakes regarding the war in Ukraine.
