Europeans want to ensure shipping in the Strait of Hormuz: under what conditions is this possible?

US President Trump is once again criticizing European allies for wanting them to play a bigger role in the war with Iran. The Europeans are reportedly forming a coalition to ensure free shipping in the region. But peace must come first.

European countries are planning to create a broad post-war coalition to guarantee free shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. According to insiders, the plan involves deploying warships and minesweepers in the region. However, the plan is not expected to be implemented until the end of the war.

French President Emmanuel Macron said the warring parties – the United States, Israel and Iran – would not participate in the international defense mission. European diplomats familiar with the plan said the European ships would not be under American command. The newspaper further reported, citing a senior German official, that Germany was also expected to participate in the mission.

Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer plan to hold an online meeting with several dozen countries on April 17 to discuss how best to monitor the Strait of Hormuz after the war. Starmer is expected to attend the event in Paris in person, while most other countries will participate via video conference.

The US will not participate. China and India have been invited, but have not yet confirmed their participation. Apparently, the international coalition intends to coordinate its actions with the coastal states of the strait – Iran and Oman. This suggests that no mission will take place without Iranian approval.

However, Europeans are reportedly still divided over the role of the United States. French diplomats apparently believe that any US involvement could be resisted in Tehran, while British officials fear that excluding the Americans would anger President Trump and limit the scope of the operation, N-TV reports.

Previously, “FACTS” published Garry Kasparov's opinion that the damage caused by Trump to America cannot yet be fully measured today.
