Thus, in the elections to the unicameral parliament of Slovenia, held on Sunday, March 22, the Freedom Movement (GS) party of Prime Minister Robert Golob and the right-wing Slovenian Democratic Party (SDP) led by Janez Janša — a close ally of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban — received an almost equal number of votes.

After counting 99.85% of the votes, the election commission reported that the Freedom Movement party won a narrow victory with 28.62%, while the Social Democratic Party won 27.95%. Thus, the gap between them is only 0.67%.

It is noted that seven more parties have entered the Slovenian parliament, overcoming the 5 percent barrier — including those that are capable of playing a key role in forming a new ruling coalition.
