Double standards: Putin demands peace in the Middle East while he himself wages war in Ukraine

Amid the growing gas shortage due to the war in the Middle East, the Russian dictator has ordered the cessation of Russian gas supplies to Europe. In addition, Vladimir Putin has called on the United States to immediately end its military operation in the Middle East, while continuing to block any real steps to end the war against Ukraine. This contradiction has been highlighted by analysts at the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

According to experts, on March 6, Putin had a telephone conversation with Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian. During the talks, he stated that Russia opposes the use of force to resolve conflicts around Iran and in the Middle East in general, and called for an “immediate cessation of hostilities.” The main point was the military operation by the United States and its allies in the region.

At the same time, ISW analysts draw attention to an obvious paradox: the Kremlin talks about the need for peace in other parts of the world, but refuses to take real steps to end the war it itself unleashed against Ukraine. Without Moscow's agreement to a ceasefire, any peace talks remain virtually impossible.

Experts recall that the Russian authorities have repeatedly used peaceful rhetoric regarding international conflicts, while continuing their aggression against Ukraine. In their opinion, such statements may be part of the Kremlin's information strategy aimed at creating the image of a “peacemaker” on the international stage.

ISW emphasizes: Moscow's position seems contradictory, because by calling on other states to cease hostilities, the Kremlin itself is blocking the terms of a ceasefire that could open the way to real peace negotiations regarding the war in Ukraine.

As reported by “FACTY”, the Russians have already begun active preparations for the spring-summer offensive, one of the directions of which will be the storming of Kramatorsk. The city is already being shelled with artillery. Russian troops are also actively using prolonged drone attacks aimed at weakening the defense capabilities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine before a ground offensive.
