The breakup of the marriage between then-Prince Charles and Princess Diana has traditionally been attributed to many reasons, but the future monarch's affair with his current wife, Queen Camilla, was probably not the deciding factor.

This opinion was expressed by royal biographer Ingrid Seward. According to her, shortly before her death, Diana shared an unexpected confession with her: “It wasn’t about Camilla,” writes instyle.
The biographer recalls that the princess emphasized that their marriage was destroyed not by Charles's relationship with another woman, but by the influence of his inner circle. This meant courtiers and palace staff who were constantly nearby and could influence the couple.
At the same time, Seward herself admits that she never fully understood what Diana meant. She only adds that the princess's father repeatedly spoke about the difficulties of life in the royal family.

Despite the dramatic ending of their relationship, Diana wanted their sons, Prince William and Prince Harry, to know that there had been a period of sincere and strong love between her and their father.
The couple's final separation occurred in 1992, and the official divorce took place in 1996. Later, on April 9, 2005, Charles married Camilla, and this union has lasted for more than two decades.
Earlier, Prince William of Wales, who may soon ascend to the throne, shared a previously unpublished photo of his mother, Princess Diana, from the family archive. In the photo, William is still young: he is next to a young Princess Diana, who, squatting next to her son, smiles into the camera. The picture was taken in a flowering field, which gives it a special warmth.
