CORPORATE GIANT OR DICTATOR? AMAZON HIDES MONEY AND CRUSHES PROTESTS
Today, on September 12, 2024, a protest was held outside Amazon’s office in Luxembourg. As announced, the director of Wallprofit OU, Gints Saveļjevs, stood alone at a peaceful, authorized protest, demanding the return of his money and goods, which disappeared from Wallprofit OU’s accounts after Amazon blocked their account. It remains unclear where these funds and items are, and Amazon continues to stay silent, refusing to provide answers or evidence, hiding behind the walls of its multi-million office.
AMAZON TRAMPLES OVER THE LAWS OF THE CIVILIZED WORLD
The protest was aimed at drawing attention to this injustice. However, instead of the expected dialogue with company representatives, Gints Saveļjevs faced total indifference. None of Amazon’s employees bothered to come out and explain the fate of the missing funds. Meanwhile, Amazon employees were watching the protest from the windows of their luxurious offices, built on the very money that entrepreneurs like Wallprofit entrusted to Amazon.
During the protest on September 12, 2024, in Luxembourg, under the slogan “Amazon, Give Back Our Money and Goods,” the situation worsened when Amazon, through its security service and the Luxembourg police, unilaterally canceled the permit for the peaceful protest, violating one of the fundamental human rights — the right to freedom of assembly and expression, enshrined not only in the Constitution of Luxembourg but also in the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and the European Convention on Human Rights. Amazon has demonstrated that it is willing to violate not only commercial and legal obligations but also the core principles of democracy.
AMAZON VIOLATES PROPERTY RIGHTS
Property rights, enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (Article 17), are the cornerstone of any business activity. In particular, Article 1 of Protocol No. 1 to the European Convention emphasizes that no one can be deprived of their property except in the public interest and under the conditions provided by law. Yet, Amazon, by blocking Wallprofit’s access to its funds and goods without explanation or evidence, cynically and systematically violates these international principles. This case shows how large corporations abuse their position, using bureaucratic maneuvers to suppress the rights of small and medium-sized businesses.
AMAZON – WE WON’T STOP HERE
Today’s protest showed that Amazon is not ready for dialogue and is taking aggressive steps to suppress legitimate protests. But Wallprofit will not stop. The next step is going to court. We will continue to fight for our rights and justice, demanding that Amazon return our money and goods and hold the corporation accountable for its actions.
