The Christian Social Union, a sister party of German Chancellor Friedrich Merz's Christian Democratic Union, is said to be skeptical about Ukraine's accession to the EU, N-TV reports. It should be noted that this opinion also exists in Poland, and was expressed by President Nawrocki.

“We hesitate because, of course, we see that this completely changes the character of the EU,” party leader Markus Söder said after a meeting of the CSU executive council in Munich. “If the idea of closer institutional integration of Ukraine with Europe is ever considered, a fundamental and completely new reform treaty for Europe will be needed.”
In Söder's view, the current EU structures would not be sufficient to implement enlargement with Ukraine. He cited agriculture as an example, but said it would not work in other areas – “hence the great reluctance.”
“This does not mean that the door is completely closed for Ukraine, but in that case Europe will have to completely rebuild itself,” he said.

We should add that recently, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated that the EU and the US are close to an agreement on a “prosperity plan” for Ukraine. It is based on five pillars: productivity, Ukraine's integration into the EU market, investments, donors, and reforms.
At the informal EU summit, the leaders were shown a confidential European Commission document that envisages Ukraine's membership in the European Union by 2027.
Earlier, it was reported that Polish President Karol Nawrocki criticized the policies of the European Union, calling the 27-nation bloc a “fading star” while claiming that he supports European integration.
