The Ukraine, United States, and Russia trilateral conference, planned for January 23-24 in Abu Dhabi (UAE), once seen as a notable prospect for concord discussions, is now heavily doubted because of the Kremlin’s ambiguous stance concerning involvement in the three-party structure.

The three-way assembly of delegates from Ukraine, the United States, and Russia, set for January 23–24 in Abu Dhabi (UAE), might not occur in the previously declared manner.
As reported by Sky News, there is still no affirmation from the Kremlin regarding Russia’s engagement in the trilateral arrangement, which casts uncertainty on the actual viability of conducting the summit.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, during a discourse at the World Economic Forum in Davos (Switzerland), expressed that the primary congregation of envoys from Ukraine, the United States, and Russia should materialize “tomorrow” — namely, on January 23.
Concurrently, several essential particulars concerning the format and rank of representation are still obscure. Sky News points out that although Ukrainian mediators have already departed for the United Arab Emirates, and US special emissaries — Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner — have journeyed to Moscow for conversations with Russian President Vladimir Putin, there has been no definitive reply from the Kremlin to ratify attendance at the summit.
Sky News commentators underscore that lacking a response from Moscow, it remains uncertain whether Russia will participate in the deliberations in the format proposed by the US and Ukraine, or will solely partake in singular meetings or decline participation altogether.
The article also specifies that Zelensky and Trump previously addressed peace parleys on the fringes of the forum, but the specifics of the concrete discussions between the three factions are still unknown.
Therefore, whilst the trilateral summit in the UAE is still being planned, its execution in the predicted configuration remains greatly questionable — largely due to Russia’s undisclosed position, which could impact the subsequent procedure of peace negotiations.
As a reminder, President Zelensky stated that he trusts Russia will be willing to reach common ground, and this will culminate in a cessation of hostilities. He also disclosed the makeup of the Ukrainian contingent for talks with Russia and the United States in the UAE
