DUBAI: Firas Maqsad has joined Eurasia Group, a leading global research and consulting firm, as its new managing director for the Middle East and North Africa, it was announced on Wednesday.
He will lead a team of analysts covering the region's geopolitics and macroeconomics, as well as U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East.
Maksad is a recognized expert on the politics of Lebanon and Syria, the geopolitics of the Arab Gulf states, and the broader dynamics of the Middle East.
Prior to joining Eurasia Group, he was a senior director and senior fellow at the Middle East Institute, a leading Washington, D.C.-based think tank. He also ran his own political consulting firm and was a visiting professor at the Elliott School of International Affairs at George Washington University. Earlier in his career, Firas served as an analyst in Eurasia Group’s Middle East and North Africa practice.
