On February 28th, a sequence of substantial blasts resonated through Dubai, amidst reported missile attacks from Iran. All airport activities within this well-known vacation destination have been put on hold.
This information comes from CNN reports.
The news outlet detailed that five detonations occurred within Dubai. Reportedly, four of these were remarkably audible. The reasons for these explosions – whether caused by actual strikes, interceptions executed by UAE’s defense systems, or some other factor – remain uncertain.
It should be noted that Dubai serves as a major commerce and travel center for the UAE and lacks any American military installations.
Dubai airports have stopped operations
All air travel to and from the two primary airports, including Dubai International Airport, regarded as the world’s busiest with an average of 2,000 to 2,500 arrivals and departures daily, is currently suspended. The duration of these limitations is still unknown.
“Dubai Airports has confirmed the temporary halt of all flight operations at both Dubai International Airport and Al Maktoum International Airport until further notification,” according to an official statement.
Travelers are being advised against traveling to the airports and instead instructed to get in touch with their respective airlines to obtain the latest flight updates. The decision was driven by the “swift intensification of the regional security landscape” and the closing of airspace above the nations bordering the Persian Gulf.
As previously reported, on the afternoon of February 28th, significant explosions reverberated across Dubai and Abu Dhabi. The US base situated in the UAE’s capital became the target of an Iranian missile offensive. The interception of this ballistic missile resulted in one fatality – a citizen of an Asian country. The debris from the missile landed within a residential sector of the city.
