In the West African country of Mali, regional insurgents have reportedly killed Defense Minister Sadio Kamara, who was considered a major ally of Russia. It is reported that Russian private military contractors are fighting alongside government troops within the country, and are also being eliminated.

An explosive-laden vehicle, operated by a suicide attacker, served as the means of assassination for the general.
The assault transpired at Camara’s residence situated in Kata, a heavily defended military town approximately 15 kilometers northwest of Bamako, the capital, which also serves as the abode of interim President Assimi Goita.
General Kamaru lost his life in synchronized attacks on military sites throughout the country, perpetrated by an al-Qaeda-affiliated entity and Tuareg militants.
Various armed factions within Mali, previously engaged in conflict with one another, have now united to strike at their mutual adversary — government forces.
Camara held a pivotal role in the military administration that took over following successive coup events in 2020 and 2021.
He stood as one of the most prominent individuals within the governing military echelon and was perceived as a potential future head of state for Mali.
Observers have described Camara’s demise as “a significant setback for the nation’s armed forces.”
The nation’s acting president, Assimi Goita, emerged unharmed from the offensive.
Upon the attack’s commencement, he was relocated to a secure location, ensuring his continued command of the military.
As a previous report indicated, a Russian helicopter transporting mercenaries was downed within Mali. Regrettably, none aboard survived.
