Businesses across the UK received a share of over £80 million from the UK government on Wednesday in an effort to ditch fossil fuels for cleaner alternatives.

There are about 29 projects that will now be working to change their production processes to cut carbon emissions, including Kellogg’s. The company plans to use hydrogen to fuel their cereal-making process in Manchester, which is backed by over £3 million government investment, according to a press release that was published by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero on Wednesday.

“Our investment of over £80 million will help them to go further and faster, using the latest science, technologies, and new energy sources to cut ties with fossil fuels and future-proof their industries,” said Energy Security and Net Zero Minister Graham Stuart.

This funding is part of the UK’s Net Zero Innovation Portfolio, which aims to “scale up low-carbon technologies for use across UK industries.” This plan is working to reduce the UK’s overall energy demand by 15% by 2030 as well as helping the country “move towards greater energy independence.”
