MADRID – European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President António Costa will travel to Spain on Monday to attend the 4th International Conference on Financing for Development.

From June 30 to July 3, Seville will host a global debate on development.

The summit will bring together 70 heads of state and government, as well as representatives of 150 countries and civil society, to discuss the financial challenges of implementing sustainable development policies.

According to the official statement, the aim of the conference is to update the global development financing framework originally agreed in Addis Ababa in 2015, and to support the effective implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

“The purpose of this conference is to reaffirm our commitment to multilateralism in the complex political reality in which we live, and we are indeed very proud to host this meeting,” Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said on Sunday ahead of the summit.

Sanchez added that at a time of geopolitical tension and growing conflict, the conference “is a call to action.” “We must act boldly and show the world the vision we want to build,” he said.
