The country will witness its seventh anti-government ‘Serbia against violence’ protest on Saturday, with further steps and changes expected in this protest, Aleksandar Jovanović-Ćuta, a member of the group Moramo – Zajedno in the Parliament of Serbia, told EURACTIV.
Jovanović-Ćuta mentioned further steps regarding the “Serbia against violence” protest.
The change in the form of the protest, which was announced by a part of the opposition, which technically supports the “Serbia against violence” protests, means the same form of protest used in the Rio Tinto demonstrations in 2022, Aleksandar Jovanović – Ćuta, s Member of Parliament of the parliamentary group Moramo – Zajedno in the Parliament of Serbia, told EURACTIV.
“I hope it’s clear to everyone what that means”. “Everything we did when we gathered all over Serbia in protests against Rio Tinto, we will continue to do,” Jovanović said.
It was announced that the seventh “Serbia against violence” protest would be held on Saturday, June 17. The gathering will be in front of the Assembly of Serbia, where the crowd will head towards the Mostar loop.
According to the organisers’ announcements, in front of the Assembly, public figures and “victims of the regime” will address the gathered citizens and once again announce their demands.
The protest will be held in several cities this week, and a simultaneous action to block roads in all cities is planned. According to announcements, the action will last from 18:00 to 21:00 pm.
Aleksandar Jovanović does not expect that the citizens’ demands will be met.
“I don’t know if there is anyone sane in this country who thinks that Aleksandar Vučić will replace Gašić, cancel national frequencies for Pink and Happy and all that is stated in the demands. Of course not. Now the question arises, who is asking: Aleksandar Vučić or hundreds of thousands of citizens?” he noted.
He added that an additional question for all of them, especially for the minister of police, is, “if they had carried out the actions they are now carrying out to confiscate illegal weapons before 3 May in Dubona and Orašje, would those children be alive?”
“Would that psychopath have anything to shoot with? Of course not! This is why he is being held criminally liable, and the least expected from Bratislav Gašić now, as a man and not a police minister, is to resign. We will not discuss this further,” said Jovanović.
“The energy of protests and gatherings is something that does not have its constants. It depends on many factors, and it is maintained by Aleksandar Vučić, Nataša Jovanović, Nebojša Bakarec, Sandra Božić and all those people around him who continue to spit fire, call people names, target, spit on actors, social strata that they are scum, traitors, enemies of this states and what not, so these are the motivating factors that bring people to the streets,” she added.
Continuing, she said that in all protests, the anger and misery of the last ten years of political reign are simmering away, including those who work for low salaries and journalists who face threats and attacks for speaking the truth.
