Igor Nesterov, the trainer of Russian boxer Alexander Povetkin and a mercenary of the Wagner PMC, was eliminated in Mali, Africa.
This was reported to Suspilny by sources in Ukrainian intelligence.
According to the source, Nesterov was killed while carrying out a “combat mission” in Northwest Africa. Previously, the Wagner Group had stated that they had “accomplished their mission” in Mali, but continued to suffer losses in the republic.
Igor Nesterov has been involved in the war against Ukraine since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion and has posed for photos with other Russian military personnel and mercenaries. Russia’s war against Ukraine has also been supported by Nesterov’s protégé, Russian boxer Alexander Povetkin. Ukraine has imposed sanctions on Povetkin for supporting a full-scale Russian invasion in 2022.
In January 2025, Alexander Povetkin was disqualified for 4 years until October 2028 and all results since 2014 were annulled due to anti-doping rule violations.
