The Jarinje border crossing has reopened for movement from Serbia into north Kosovo after a 24-day blockade, a situation that arose following the Serb paramilitary terrorist attack in Banjska, while residents of villages along the border report some difficulties in movement.

Since the attack carried out on 24 September, Kosovo authorities enforced restrictions on movement and border crossings in a bid to maintain security in the region. Some Serbian communities reported difficulties in attending lectures and school, getting certain goods, and being able to access Serbian dinars, even though the official currency of Kosovo is the euro.

The blockades were necessary considering the heightened threat after the attack and police operations to arrest other involved individuals, continue investigations, and seize weapons and ammunition.

“We are cut off from Leposavić. Today, I was supposed to go to work, but I can’t. I also have a child who can’t go to daycare. There is no life here anymore. If it continues like this, we are forced to move,” says Goran Vukašinović from the village of Stanuloviće.
