Miroslav Aleksić, until recently vice-president of the conservative right-wing People’s Party and representatives of several city and municipal committees, left the party and decided to establish a new party called the People’s Movement of Serbia.

Aleksić, who was a member of the party for six years, stated there was no conflict between them but his dismissal from his post and subsequent exit from the party suggest otherwise.

“The committees asked for an extraordinary assembly, so a regular one was agreed upon for October. Then something happened, completely unexpected for me. At one meeting of the presidency, I was dismissed from the position of the chairman of the party’s Executive Committee, which was not on the agenda, and I did not expect it,” he added.

He said the party’s direction is pro-European and “We cannot give up on that path because we do not like some of Europe’s attitudes.”

The politician said he will now set up his own party called the People’s Movement of Serbia.

“All parties that are fighting against the regime of Aleksandar Vučić and that are fighting for a better and differently organised society are our potential partners.”
