Radical pro-Russian party Vazrazhdane leader Kostadin Kostadinov called for the destruction of the megaphones of the American embassy, a label he uses for Euro-Atlantic parties in the country – We Continue the Change, Democratic Bulgaria and GERB.
Kostadinov spoke on Sunday as the march of Yevgeny Prigozhin’s private army on Moscow in an apparent coup d’etat attempt ended.
“The so-called coup in Russia ended before it began, causing unprecedented disappointment in our democratic community. Yesterday (Saturday) I saw with interest what they were writing and what the megaphones of the US embassy were calling for – in general, their profiles were pouring blood and calling for war, massacres, riots and all kinds of other similar things,” Kostadinov wrote in a Facebook message that carries the tag “Official position”.
“Now, of course, they are disappointed (by Wagner-b.r.), but only a few hours were enough to see what they are – a ferocious anti-human scum, thirsting for blood and dreaming of wars and violence. That is why it is the duty of every normal citizen to do everything in his power so that this ugly scum can be annihilated – for the good not only of Bulgaria but also of humanity,” says Kostadinov.
He has also previously called out pro-EU media that are critical of his party and NGOs that work with European and American funding for being ‘megaphones of the US embassy’.
One of the most frequent threats by Vazrazhdane is that they will reopen the Belene concentration camp, where thousands of opponents of the totalitarian communist regime in the country died, in order to deal with the “traitors” of the homeland. He also said that adopting the euro could lead to civil war.
The prosecutor’s office has not yet responded to EURACTIV’s inquiry as to whether Kostadinov’s speech could be classified as incitement to violence, which is a crime under the Bulgarian Criminal Code.
Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov said that Vazrazhdane is betting on instilling fear and manipulation. “Vazrazhdane is a political force that quite openly in recent days makes calls, including from its leader, against the democratic system in Bulgaria, calls for violence that go well beyond the limits of what the legal system in Bulgaria has set,” said the prime minister.
“It is time for Bulgarian justice to stop turning a blind eye to the absolutely unacceptable and regularly inviting violence statements of Vazrazhdane and their leader. There is no place for destructive ideologies in European Bulgaria. There is also no place for Kremlin propaganda that calls itself: the truth, and the truth declares it to be fake news,” said Democratic Bulgaria MP Ivaylo Mirchev.
