Romania quickly followed Moldova in condemning possible Russian threats to a bridge connecting Moldova and Romania announced by Kherson’s self-proclaimed pro-Russian governor.

In a video recording, the Russian representative in Kherson, Vladimir Salido, asserted that Russia could target the bridge which links Romania and Moldova, claiming this would serve as Russia’s response to the Ukrainian army’s attack on the bridge that connects the Kherson region to Crimea.

“We will not tolerate such language directed against the Republic of Moldova. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will urgently summon the head of the Russian Federation diplomatic mission in Moldova, requesting appropriate explanations”, announced Moldova’s Foreign Ministry.

Shortly after Moldova’s announcement, Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu and the Foreign Ministry in Bucharest posted a similar statement on Twitter, condemning the threat.

“Such statements targeting both the Republic of Moldova and a part of NATO allied territory are unacceptable”, they said.

“Hitting civilian infrastructure is a crime of war”, Ciolacu and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also wrote.
