The country’s two biggest parties – and winners of the April elections – the liberal-conservative National Coalition Party (NCP) and the nationalistic and populist Finns Party are gaining support, according to a poll commissioned by Helsingin Sanomat, published on Wednesday.
The NCP gathered 21.4% support, up by 0.6% from April, while the Finns Party climbed up to 21.0%, an increase of 0.9%.
Also, the Swedish People’s Party saw its backing grow slightly by 0.2% to 4.5%. The Christian Democrats took a minor dip of 0.1% down to 4.1%.
The results offered a sigh of relief, or even a boost, to parties trying to build a majority government.
According to leaks, views on climate policy, immigration and budget cuts remain miles apart.
Leading the negotiations, the Chair of the NCP, Petteri Orpo has targeted June as a deadline for a new government.
