State-owned energy company Fortum and Rolls-Royce signed a memorandum of understanding to explore the opportunities for deploying small modular reactors (SMR) in Finland and Sweden.
While Fortum’s new strategy aims ”to deliver reliable, clean energy and drive decarbonisation in industries in the Nordics”, Rolls-Royce SMR, established in 2021, is looking to bring a modularised, factory-built SMR to market. Fortum has also concluded cooperation agreements with French energy giant EDF, Sweden’s Kärnfull Next and Finnish company Helen.
