The government in Skopje signed on Wednesday a deal worth  €1.3 billion with Turkish Enka and its joint venture partner, US Bechtel, for the construction of motorways connecting it with ports in Albania, Bulgaria and Greece, Nova Makedonija reported.

The Pan-European corridor 8 connects the Adriatic and the Black Sea, while Corridor 10 links Austria, Hungary, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Bulgaria, North Macedonia, and Greece.

Enka said on its website the construction will start in 2023 and is to be completed within five years, stressing the complexity of the project, which will require building “34 bridges, 34 overpasses, and 24 underpasses”.

North Macedonia’s Prime Minister Dimitar Kovačevski said after signing the deal that the two corridors will “make North Macedonia an even more important regional and international transport route, and even more visible on the global investment map”.
