The subsidies available for purchasing new electric and hybrid vehicles will now amount to about €2.5 million (294 million dinars), twice as much as what was allocated last year, a newly adopted Serbian government decree states.

The decree allows legal entities, entrepreneurs and other individuals to submit requests for subsidies no later than 31 October 2023 and applies to different types of vehicles.

For mopeds and light tricycles, new buyers will be allowed to claim subsidies amounting to €250, while those who go for motorcycles, motorcycles with side seats, heavy tricycles, light and heavy quadricycles could claim as much €500.

Passenger and cargo vehicle purchases will be subsidised with an amount of €2,500-5,000, the Environment Ministry said in a statement.

Data on environmentally friendly transport show increased awareness among citizens about the impact on the environment, with purchases of environmentally friendly vehicles increasing year after year.

For example, while 112 such vehicles were purchased in 2020, the number went to 446 in 2021 and reached a record of 625 in 2022, the Environment Ministry announced.

For the fourth year in a row, the Ministry encourages the purchase of electric and hybrid cars as part of implementing measures to improve air quality and the environment.
