The financial agreement for the package of energy support from the EU to Serbia, worth €165 million, was signed on Tuesday with President Aleksandar Vučić saying that Serbia depends on the European Union in many ways.
“I just want the people to know that Serbia will either not advance or it will be difficult without the European Union. Those who serve up options of finding great alternative routes are not telling the truth and are not being fair to citizens”, Vučić said.
“People in Serbia need to know that, even if I sometimes respond fiercely to something coming from the EU, I am well aware of what pushes us forward, feeds our country, brings jobs for the young people and gives them a future. If anyone says something different, those are empty stories and fairytales”, said the president.
The package is an example of EU solidarity which will help vulnerable families and businesses fight the energy crisis, said the EU Delegation chief and EU ambassador in Serbia, Emanuele Giaufret.
“This package will help the energetic safety of Serbia, support the energetic map and goals, and also the green transition. There is a full and unequivocal commitment from the EU to the Western Balkans, including Serbia. That was confirmed by European leaders at the Tirana summit in December, but those are not just words, but actions and funds which help those actions be fulfilled”, Giaufret said.
