The Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, sat down with Dutch Foreign Minister Wopke Hoekstra, where they discussed Ukraine, global energy security, and regional developments, Hoekstra tweeted on Thursday.
Hoekstra tweeted that this meeting worked to reaffirm the “good bilateral relations” between both countries, as Qatar “helps foster stability” in an “unpredictable geopolitical landscape.”
Among the topics of conversation, Hoekstra mentioned that Ukraine, global energy security, and regional developments were of mutual interest. He also said that the Netherlands “greatly values Qatar’s support in facilitating the safe passage of people from Afghanistan via Doha to the Netherlands,” Hoekstra wrote in a follow-up tweet.
Last month, the European Parliament suspended its work with Qatar as MEPs demanded the establishment of an independent ethics body and inquiry into the Qatargate corruption scandal.
Following this announcement, Qatar condemned a corruption investigation by Belgium and the suspension of the Gulf state’s access to the EU parliament, saying it could “negatively” impact ties and natural gas supplies.
“I look forward to continuing our partnership and broadening our cooperation in other areas,” he concluded in his Twitter thread.
