Registration for the Responsible AI in the Military Domain summit – REAIM 2023 – is now open, the Dutch government announced Thursday.
In September, Foreign Affairs Minister Wopke Hoekstra announced that the Netherlands would host an international summit on the responsible application of artificial intelligence in the military domain.
“AI is developing at a rapid pace, including in the military domain. This new technology is set to become one of the greatest challenges we will face in the area of international security and arms control,” Hoekstra said.
The purpose of the summit is to move the discussion of responsible AI in the military domain higher up on the political agenda, mobilise and activate a wide group of stakeholders to contribute to the next steps, and foster and increase knowledge by sharing experiences, best practices, and solutions.
At the EU level, lawmakers leading the file in the European Parliament circulated a new batch of compromise amendments a few weeks ago redesigning the enforcement structure of the AI Act. The Act is a flagship regulation intended to place obligations on Artificial Intelligence based on its potential to cause harm.
REAIM 2023 will be hosted in collaboration with South Korea at the World Forum in the Hague on 15 and 16 February 2023.
