Finns are growing impatient while waiting for the ratification from Hungary and Turkey for Finland and Sweden’s NATO membership, according to a poll published by research company Taloustutkimus on Thursday.
In a survey carried out by Taloustutkimus, 52% of respondents held a view that in case Finland’s application would be ratified, but the Swedish one would be postponed due to Turkey’s resistance, then Finland could enter the military alliance without waiting for its neighbour.
Some 30% would remain loyal to Sweden and around 20% had no definite opinion. Most willing to go solo were the supporters of the nationalistic Finns Party. The political leadership of both Finland and Sweden have repeatedly confirmed their intention to enter NATO together at the same pace. Political analysts in Finland saw it unlikely that surveys would alter that alignment.
